About Urgenth

Urgenth is a logistics knowledge platform. We build practical trade tools and write in-depth guides for people who move goods across borders: e-commerce sellers, sourcing teams, and small importers who do their own paperwork.

The name is a reminder of how this industry actually works. In logistics, almost everything is urgent, and almost nothing is simple. A container misses a vessel cutoff, a customs query arrives the day before Black Friday, a tariff change lands mid-quarter. The winners are not the ones who panic fastest, but the ones who already understand the system: incoterms, HS classification, duty rates, clearance procedure. That knowledge is usually locked up in broker invoices and 3,000-page tariff schedules. Our job is to get it out.

What We Build

We start with tools. The HS Code Finder lets you describe a product in plain English and get candidate HTS codes with duty rates, pulled from the official USITC Harmonized Tariff Schedule. The tool does not invent answers: it only selects from real tariff records, shows you the matching headings, and tells you what extra detail (material, composition, function) would make the classification firmer.

Around the tools we publish guides: how tariff schedules are structured, how classification rules actually work, what changed in trade policy, and how to read all of it without a law degree. Every guide is grounded in primary sources, including the HTS itself, CBP rulings, and the Federal Register.

Why Classification First

HS classification is the single decision that drives most of your landed cost: the duty rate, eligibility for trade-agreement rates, whether additional tariffs apply, and what paperwork the shipment needs. It is also the decision small sellers most often guess at. A wrong code can mean overpaying duty for years, or owing back duties and penalties after a CBP audit. We think a tool that grounds itself in the official schedule and shows its work is a better starting point than a guess.

One honest limit: our tools assist, they do not rule. The legally binding answer comes from CBP, either through a binding ruling request or through your licensed customs broker at entry. We flag uncertainty instead of hiding it, and we tell you when to ask a professional.

Who Is Behind This

Urgenth is run by an independent operator with a background in logistics management: incoterms, HS codes, and clearance process are home ground, not homework. The site began as a place to write about logistics technology, including a series of deep dives into blockchain's role in supply chains. Those articles are still in the archive under Technology Explainers. The focus today is narrower and more practical: the trade knowledge that saves sellers money this quarter.
